In June, the City of Harrison will install 30 new lamp post banners to honor local men and women serving in the United States military.
Residents of Harrison and surrounding townships can apply for a “Hometown Hero” banner to honor a family member who is a veteran or serving active duty. The cost is $40 and the application must be mailed by May 28, 2021. A limited number of banners are available as first priority will be given to families who applied last year but did not receive a spot.
A $400 contribution from American Legion Yeager-Benson Post 199 helped cover most of the expense to print the banners.
The banners on display now will be retired and provided to family members during a Fourth of July ceremony. More details on this event, the annual parade and fireworks are forthcoming.
Harrison resident Kathy Williams organized the program. Her son, Alex Williams has served in the U.S. Air Force since 2019.
