[ARCHIVED] HOLIDAY ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE THROUGH COMMUNITY FUND

The Harrison Mayor's Community Fund is a charity that assists any citizens residing within the Southwest Local Schools District. A tradition of giving was established more than 60 years ago, when a turkey was given to Harrison Mayor Clyde Small, who didn’t need it. He gave the turkey to Fred Dole, co-owner of the Whitewater Market on the corner at 102 Harrison Avenue. There, Mr. Dole cut the turkey in half to feed two families in need.

During the holiday season, the Mayor's Community Fund, together with the various local churches and schools, provides assistance in the form of food, clothing, winter coats and toys to hundreds of families. Today, individuals can apply for assistance by visiting the Harrison Community Center (300 George Street) during one of the following times:

  • Nov. 6, 2021 from 9 a.m. to noon
  • Nov. 10, 2021 from 9 a.m. to noon
  • Nov 10, 2021 from 5 to 7 p.m.
  • Nov. 13, 2021 from 9 a.m. to noon
  • Nov. 17, 2021 from 9 a.m. to noon
  • Nov. 17 from 5 to 7 p.m.

A photo ID and proof of residence (such as a bill for utilities, insurance or cable) must be presented.
