[ARCHIVED] SENIOR CENTER DIRECTOR CELEBRATING 23 YEARS

The City of Harrison Senior Center Director Jill French is celebrating 23 years working for the City in May. She is responsible for coordinating meals and activities for hundreds of Senior Center members and reporting to the Council on Aging.

“I have learned so much,” French said. “I just love hearing the stories and I would not change my career for anything.”

French herself has an interesting story. Originally from South Dakota, she earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and sociology at Iowa State University. She and her husband—to whom she has been married for 40 years—moved to the Cincinnati area with two young children.

While her children were in school, she began a part-time job delivering meals to senior adults in Whitewater Township. That led to another role as activities director. In 2000, she took the position in Harrison.

Respect for others and patience have been important qualities for the senior center director. Especially during the past few years, while COVID made it particularly difficult for senior adults isolated at home.

The Senior Center calendar is starting to get back into full swing with activities like crocheting, knitting, chair volleyball, euchre and other card games. Bingo is a particularly popular activity every Tuesday and Friday. Every month a field trip to Aldi is offered. Guest speakers will be added to the calendar, soon.

Lunch is served Monday through Friday at 11:30 for $1.50 cash. Reservations should be made by calling (513) 367-0649. Transportation is available to residents of Harrison and Harrison Township.

The City of Harrison Senior Center is open to anyone in the area who is age 60 or better. Membership is $5 and can be purchased Monday through Friday, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Harrison Community Center (300 George Street).
