A record crowd of 3,500 attended the Harrison Food Truck Rally May 20. The event kicked off a busy calendar for Harrison’s historic downtown district. The District, an association of downtown businesses, is planning a special event each month to draw traffic to its shops, bars and restaurants.
A new concept for The District is “First Fridays.” On June 2, the 100 and 200 blocks of Harrison Avenue will be closed to traffic so people can “Explore the District” on foot. Each business will have a prize drawing. Organizers are planning for a relaxed, beer-garden atmosphere with live music in front of On The Rocks and 1860 Taproom & Bottleshop.
Closing the street create space for people to flow freely and makes it more appealing to come down, said a board member for The District.
Downtown restaurants and bars will be open food and drink purchases. Patrons can use a DORA cup (Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area) to sip adult beverages during the events.
The District calendar includes the following events.
- June 2 - First Fridays
- July 8 - Music on the Avenue
- August 4 - First Fridays
- September 9 - Fall Food Truck Fest
- September 23 - Ladies on the Avenue
- October 6 - First Fridays
- October 28 - Halloween on the Avenue
- November 3 - First Fridays
People should follow The District on social media for updates.
